About ATR Trailing Stop Indicator
The ATR (Average True Range) is a volatility indicator that measures the average price movement over a lookback period (typically 14 bars), without indicating direction — only volatility magnitude. ATR Trailing Stop uses this volatility reading to set dynamic stop-loss levels that adapt to current market conditions.
For example, if the ATR value is 27 pips on EURUSD, the stop-loss is placed 27 pips away from the entry; with each new candle, the ATR recalculates and the stop adjusts automatically. This approach keeps risk-per-trade consistent despite changing volatility. ATR is foundational to many professional trading systems and is available free as a built-in MT4 indicator or as custom implementations.
